2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner Car Stereo, Speaker & Dash Kit Fitment

A 2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner (5th gen) takes a single- or double-DIN aftermarket stereo using a Metra 99-8271 dash kit, with steering-wheel controls kept through a plug-and-play harness. Front-door speakers are commonly 6×9″ and rear-door speakers 6.5″. JBL-equipped trims add a factory amp.

Two things vary across the 2010–2024 run. (1) Wiring: 2010–2017 4Runners use the Toyota '03–'11 radio plug (Metra 70-8114), while 2018–2024 use the Toyota '18-up plug (Metra 70-1765) — pick the harness that matches your year. (2) Audio: JBL premium trims (Limited / Premium Package / TRD Pro) have a factory amp that needs an amp-retention interface to keep full sound. Front doors are commonly 6×9" and rear doors 6.5"; small dash speakers (≈3.5") also exist on some years. Not sure which you have? Send us your year and trim and we'll match it in a minute.

The 5th-gen 4Runner is one of the friendliest Toyotas to upgrade — the factory dash has the room for a clean single- or double-DIN aftermarket stereo once you add the right Metra kit, so you can drop in Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and keep an OEM look. The one thing to get right is the wiring: early ('10–'17) and late ('18–'24) trucks use different factory radio plugs, and JBL trims have an amp to retain. Everything you need is below — pick the dash kit, match the harness to your year, and add a head unit. Want it done for you? Our techs install 4Runners regularly at our Chilliwack shop.

2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner stereo upgrade — FAQ

What size speakers fit a 2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner?

On the 5th-generation 4Runner the front doors are commonly 6×9" and the rear doors are 6.5". Some years also have small ≈3.5" dash speakers. Toyota uses its own mounting pattern, so most upgrades use a speaker adapter/bracket — we include the right one. If you want to be 100% sure of your year, send it to us and we'll confirm before you buy.

Can I put a double DIN / Apple CarPlay stereo in my 4Runner?

Yes. With the Metra 99-8271 dash kit, a 2010–2024 4Runner accepts a full double-DIN CarPlay / Android Auto receiver cleanly — and it also supports a single-DIN deck if you prefer. The kit fills the factory Entune display opening and gives the new stereo a factory-style finish.

Will I lose my steering-wheel controls or backup camera?

No. A plug-and-play harness keeps your steering-wheel controls working — use the 70-8114 for 2010–2017 trucks or the 70-1765 for 2018–2024 (the factory plug changed mid-generation). A compatible head unit retains the factory backup camera. On JBL trims with a factory amp (Limited / Premium / TRD Pro) we add an amp-retention or bypass interface so you keep full sound.

What dash kit do I need for a 5th generation 4Runner?

The Metra 99-8271 is the dash kit for the whole 2010–2024 run — it mounts a single- or double-DIN stereo and comes in high-gloss charcoal (99-8271CHG) or silver (99-8271S) so you can match your interior. Both are in stock above with live pricing. Pair it with the harness that matches your year.
