2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma Car Stereo, Speaker & Dash Kit Fitment

A 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma (3rd gen) takes a single- or double-DIN aftermarket stereo using a Metra dash kit, with steering-wheel controls retained through a plug-and-play harness. Front-door speakers are commonly 6×9" and rear-door speakers 6.5" on Double Cab models — confirm your cab and trim with us.

Speaker sizes vary by cab and audio package. Most 3rd-gen Tacomas run 6×9" in the front doors and 6.5" in the rear doors on the Double Cab; Access Cab trucks have smaller fill speakers behind the seats instead of true rear doors, and some front doors need a 6.5" adapter. JBL/Entune Premium trucks add an amp and dash tweeters. Tell us your exact cab and trim and we'll match it — confirm with us if you're unsure.

The 3rd-generation Toyota Tacoma is a great truck to upgrade — the factory Entune touchscreen is dated, but the dash takes a clean single- or double-DIN aftermarket stereo with the right Metra kit, so you can add Apple CarPlay or Android Auto without hacking up the dash. Below are the exact Tacoma dash kits and plug-and-play Toyota harnesses we stock, including a JBL-friendly iDatalink option that keeps your steering-wheel controls and backup camera. Pick one, add a head unit, and you're set — or have our certified techs do it for you at our Chilliwack shop.

2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma stereo upgrade — FAQ

What size speakers fit a 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma?

On most 3rd-gen Tacomas the front doors take 6×9" speakers and the Double Cab rear doors take 6.5". Access Cab trucks don't have true rear doors — they use smaller fill speakers behind the seats — and some front doors need a 6.5" mounting adapter. JBL/Entune Premium trucks also have dash tweeters. Tell us your cab and trim and we'll match the exact size.

Can I put a double DIN / Apple CarPlay stereo in my Tacoma?

Yes. With the Metra 99-8251B (or 95-8235CHG) dash kit, a 2016–2023 Tacoma takes a full double-DIN Apple CarPlay / Android Auto receiver cleanly in place of the factory Entune screen. Prefer a smaller deck? The 99-8235B and 99-8235CHG kits handle a single-DIN stereo.

Will I lose my steering-wheel controls or backup camera?

No. A plug-and-play harness keeps your steering-wheel controls working and a compatible head unit retains the factory backup camera. The iDatalink HRN-HRR-TO2 Maestro T-harness is the cleanest option on JBL/Entune Premium trucks — it retains the steering-wheel controls, camera and the factory amp when paired with a Maestro-ready deck.

What dash kit do I need for a 3rd generation Tacoma?

For a double-DIN stereo the Metra 99-8251B (single/double DIN, '16-up) is the go-to, with the 95-8235CHG as a charcoal double-DIN alternative. For a single-DIN stereo use the 99-8235B (matte black) or 99-8235CHG (high-gloss charcoal). All four are in stock above with live pricing.
